Key terms and definitions used throughout Debitura's platform and documentation.
General Terms
Case
A debt collection matter submitted to Debitura for recovery. Each case represents a single debtor with one or more outstanding invoices.
Creditor
The original party owed money. Also called "Client" in the Customer API context. The entity that submits cases to Debitura.
Debtor
The party who owes money to the creditor. The individual or company from whom Debitura attempts to collect outstanding debt.
Collection Partner
External debt collection agencies or law firms assigned by Debitura to work on specific cases. Partners handle cases in their jurisdictions and expertise areas.
Referral Partner
SaaS platforms or service providers that integrate Debitura into their offering and earn revenue share from referred cases.
Case Lifecycle Terms
Lead
A potential debt collection case that hasn't been formally submitted yet. Used for quoting and case evaluation.
Quote
An estimated cost and success probability for collecting a specific debt. Provided before case submission.
Active Case
A case currently being worked on by Debitura or a Collection Partner.
Suspended Case
A case temporarily paused at the creditor's request or due to external factors (e.g., debtor bankruptcy proceedings).
Closed Case
A case that has reached a final state - either fully collected, partially collected and closed, or deemed uncollectible.
Resolution
The final outcome of a case, including amount collected, fees incurred, and closure reason.
Financial Terms
Principal Amount
The original debt amount owed, excluding any interest or fees.
Interest
Additional charges accrued on the principal amount, calculated according to agreed rates and jurisdiction rules.
Collection Fee
Debitura's fee for collection services, typically a percentage of the amount collected (success fee model).
Cost Recovery
Additional expenses incurred during collection (court fees, attorney costs, etc.) that may be recovered from the debtor.
Payout
Money transferred from Debitura to the creditor after successful collection, minus applicable fees.
Net Recovery
The amount the creditor receives after all fees and costs are deducted from the collected amount.
Payment Terms
Payment Plan
An agreed schedule for the debtor to pay the debt in installments rather than a lump sum.
Partial Payment
A payment that covers less than the full outstanding amount.
Settlement
An agreement to accept less than the full debt amount as payment in full, closing the case.
Assignment
The legal transfer of the debt claim from the creditor to Debitura or a Collection Partner.
API and Integration Terms
Webhook
An HTTP callback that Debitura sends to your application when specific events occur (e.g., payment received, case status changed).
Idempotency Key
A unique identifier included in API requests to prevent duplicate operations if the same request is sent multiple times.
Sandbox Environment
A test environment with the same API structure as production but using simulated data and processes.
Production Environment
The live environment where real cases with legal and financial consequences are processed.
Role-Based Terms
Customer API
The API used by creditors (clients) to submit cases, track progress, and manage their debt collection portfolio.
Partner API
The API used by Collection Partners to access assigned cases, report activities, and update case status.
Referral API
The API used by Referral Partners to facilitate white-label case submissions on behalf of their customers.
Legal and Compliance Terms
GDPR
General Data Protection Regulation - EU privacy law that governs how personal data is collected, stored, and processed.
KYC
Know Your Customer - verification process to confirm the identity of creditors and prevent fraud.
AML
Anti-Money Laundering - compliance requirements to prevent illegal financial activities.
Statute of Limitations
The legal time limit for collecting a debt, varying by jurisdiction and debt type.
Enforcement Action
Legal proceedings initiated to compel debt payment, such as court judgments or asset seizure.
Operational Terms
SLA
Service Level Agreement - commitments regarding response times, uptime, and service quality.
Case Assignment
The process of allocating a case to a specific Collection Partner based on jurisdiction, expertise, and workload.
Escalation
Moving a case to more intensive collection methods (e.g., from friendly reminders to legal action).
Portfolio
A collection of cases managed as a group, typically all cases from a single creditor.
